Hello there;

I am currently doing a research project on model railway for my university course and I would wonder if you could just answer just a few simple questions. It's not for commercial aspects but mainly for my research project so don't think these questions will be in model rail! Could you just answer the following questions:
1. What is your main reason for railway modeling?
2. Is your interest in model railways in the general aspect, by which I mean the building and operation of a model railway, including the customization of model trains etc?
2(a) or do you enjoy model railways for the interest of collecting?
3. Do you see model railways as a way of depicting life, whether it is the past such as memories of childhood or modern day society?

If you can get back to me soon that would be great. I just also want to say you have a great layout. It is so inspiring and has given me so many ideas about going about my own layout that is a fictional TMD based in the west midlands.

Keep up with the good work;

Nick Ham

On your track plan, are all the corners and tracks exactly accurate to the layout?

Fantastic layout and the photos are magnificant. Would be delighted to see info on your experience of building your layout with your tips as the layout proves your experience in model making

Hi Steve,

Wow what an excellent layout, I too was in position of having a huge layout in my attic but due to moving had to take it all down. I am now in the proccss of starting a brand new layout from scratch and making it even better than the last one. Your work is truly an inspiration to us all! Has it taken you long to build Stroley International?

Kind Regards,

Chris

Dear Steve, I am 14 and have a small layout and a limited budget. I am thinking of changing my railway to digital and I need some expert advice. Do you have digital and if so is it worth the money? All my locamotives are quite old. (The oldest being from the 1970s and the newest 2005) and don't run perticually well.) I like the idea of the dcc sound locomotives but they are so expensive.
Also, where did you get your ballast from and what ballast did you use (both the ballast for the main line and the darker ballast for the sidings.)
Just as a question, but do you have any steam locomotives. My passion is GWR steam and a have a 1990's Hall Class 'Hagley Hall' and a large Pararie. Do you know anywhere where I can get cheap locomotives of this genre? Preferably Castle Class.

Thanks a lot, i hope the Stroley International project is going well.

P.S. Just how many locomotives do you have? I bet you could open your own model shop.

Dear Steve,
Great effort. I particularly like your stance of running whatever you like. I also enjoy almost all traction and thought I had a rediculously large collection ( still growing ) but I am in awe of yours. I might have missed it but couldnt find the overall size of your creation.

I see from one of your layouts (which are all brilliant by the way) that you have a batch of "BLI" hopper wagons. These mean a lot to me because a mate and I who worked for that Company designed that logo and we each won a magnum of champagne in the competition for doing so. We made the logo appear as near as we could without infringement to the previous owners ICI who I worked for in their Chemicals Sales Dept for almost 30 years ultimately specialising in Lime Products (hence the connection) before I retired. You may find it interesting to note that ICI Sold out their Lime Group to the DeBeers Conglome rate (the biggest mining Co in the World) which itself was formed by Cecil Rhodes of Rhodesia fame now the infamous Zimbabwe/Mugabie set up of course. For my part I have over the years amassed a huge collection of 00 and N gauge stuff which are on static display because I am absolutely hopeless at modeling and electronics. That is why I admire people like you with such fantastic models

Hi Stevie,
This is a great layout with some great trains. Would you be able to give me some information about the ballest you used as well as the signals that you used as well. Do you know how much you paid for the signals and where you got them and the ballest from.

Great Layout,
Chris

Wondered if you could send me Norman Clarks' e-mail address, I too shop at Durham Trains and live in the Newcastle area, would like to meet him to swap ideas etc for when I start my loft layout this year?
many thanks,

norman clark says...
Like the layout especially the diesel depot and office block, I have a 30ft x10ft layout but I have a slight problem with
moving house I have found my loft space is not big enough,so I am having to build a shed in the back garden when
I get round to it,at present my layout is in storage in my mother in laws garage under wraps so come summer I will
be building the shed if all goes to plan, boards are eight x three on two x one frames and two x two legs with shelving
underneath for storage. Norm C.

Hi there, great website as usual, loving the updates on Stroley, it just gets better and better everytime I look in.
Just a couple of things, why when Bachmann, Hornby and others are making modern day trains do the companies that make model cars not realise there is a market and start producing some. I don`t want a layout running modern train vehicles with cars from the 50`s and 60`s. Or is it there are cars out there for OO/HO guage and I am just basing it on the fact that the closest gauge would be 1:76th scale, which the EFE/Corgi/CMNL buses I have on my layout . Also trying to find modern day emergency vehicles is becoming a pain in he a***, lol. Any ideas, as this is not just directed to the great man Mr Stevie "Stroley" Boley any body else with ideas I would look forward to receiving them. My email is bazzajones773@hotmail.com. Many Thanks and look forward to your replies.

Brilliant site, what a mine of useful information in easy to access photographic form. Will be back for ideas and solutions to problems.
Looking at buffer stops for end loading or goods platform and whether fencing or other boundary was used between goods and motive power depots. http://s279.photobucket.com/albums/kk129/mellorphoto/train%20set/

look for mellorphoto in google/photobucket for my attempts. John
